Things Not to Do When Driving Close to Trucks
When you are driving on the road, there are many things that you need to look for besides just thinking about your own car. There are lots of other cars out there on the road that you might need to worry about. When you are driving next to or around 18 wheelers, you should be aware of what not to do so that you can avoid either them or yourself getting into an accident.
The first general rule is that there are areas of the truck that you should never drive near. These areas are called no-zones and are the areas behind and beside a truck where you might be in the driver’s blind spots. By staying in the areas where the driver can see, you help to keep both you and him safe.
The next thing you should never do is to change lanes in front of an 18 wheeler very quickly. If you don’t give the truck enough room to slow down and get himself stable, there is a larger chance that he will run into you because he just couldn’t stop.
Another general rule of thumb is to be safe when turning in front of an upcoming truck. If you happen to misjudge how fast a truck is coming and turn in front of him, there is a chance that he won’t be able to stop because he has a much larger vehicle and will plow into you. Overall, you should be more cautious when driving around 18 wheelers. Remember that it takes them twice as long to stop as it does for your smaller car.
