Construction Zone Hazards

While trucks pose a major threat to the safety of other drivers in ordinary conditions, when a road is under construction, things are even worse. Construction zones pose not just an increased risk for the workers but also for drivers everywhere.

Construction zones are notoriously hazardous. For starters, there is often some confusion about where exactly a lane is. There are frequently multiple sets of lines that, while not visible during the day, are completely visible at night. Other times there aren’t any lane markers so the lanes are more like a free-for-all.

In addition to lanes not being marked, they are often of different heights. The left or right lane is sometimes a good bit higher than the other lane. When an individual goes to change lanes, this can be a bit of a shock, particularly if the sign announcing the un-even lanes is not particularly visible or not present at all. This, in some cases, can cause an extremely top-heavy load to topple. In other cases, it could make the driver feel like his load is going over and make him over-compensate causing the truck to hit another vehicle or roll in the opposite direction.

To top it off, exits aren’t exactly always very well marked. This can lead to drivers making split-second lane changes that can cut other cars off. This can cause the cut-off cars to go into a skid or an 18-wheeler to jack-knife in order to avoid hitting the exiting car.

If you or someone you know has been injured in an accident involving an 18-wheeler, contact the Texas truck accident attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 1-866-950-9000 to discuss your case and to determine your legal options.
